The Brazilian Amazon is the lungs of our earth, which is why the whole world suffers when the rainforest is in flames. The home to 1 million Indigenous people, 3 million species, and countless trees that produce 20 percent of the world’s oxygen, has been burning for more than two weeks straight. There have been approximately 74,000 fires since the beginning of this year, which is a staggering 84% increase over the same period last year according to the National Institute for Space Research, Brazil.
There are rising political tensions as scientists and environmentalists attribute the accelerating deforestation to political agendas of leaders within the Brazilian government following the public announcement of their intentions to clear the land to be used for commercial purposes, including for animal farming. However, without the amazon in good health, we cannot keep the Earth’s warming in check. Being the largest rainforest in the world, the Brazilian Amazon is a critical piece of the global climate solution.
Coconut Bowls represents a sustainable movement made by the coming together of an incredible inclusive community over shared values. We proactively support environmental causes philanthropically all year round by partnering with 1% for the planet, and carbon capturing nonprofit, Cool Effect. As this recent news represents nothing less than an environmental crisis, we are taking a stand by donating an additional $1,000 to the Rainforest Alliance who are redirecting 100% of funds donated to the frontliners fighting the fires and the ongoing protection of the Amazon.
With the help of this community, we know that we can double this donation. We only need 200 people to donate $5 to double our immediate impact, and we will personally thank you in return.
Here’s how the donation works:
